World Sight Day puts children at centre of campaign

This year’s World Sight Day lands on 10 October and is putting children at the centre of the campaign, with lots of ways to get involved.

Schools and organisations are being encouraged to facilitate vision screening of children, with carers and parents invited to make a #LoveYourEyes pledge on behalf of their children. Teachers also have an important role in the campaign with access to World Sight Day resources that encourage children to take care of their eyes.

Other initiatives include:

• The RNIB has launched its patient-focused Eye Care Support Pathway booklet
• European Council of Optometry and Optics has produced a new infographic that advises parents, carers and teachers on steps to help them take care of children’s eyes.

Having recently run our own children’s eye health campaign, The College of Optometrists is proud to be a supporter, along with colleagues across the eye care sector.
