Recently, Robbie Williams said he believes weight-loss injections including Mounjaro have harmed his eyesight. His comments have sparked renewed concern about possible eye risks linked to semaglutide-based medications like Mounjaro, Ozempic, and Wegovy, also known as GLP-1’s and this has raised questions about what people taking them should know to protect their vision.

What Robbie Williams says happened to his eyesight

Williams says that after starting Mounjaro, his vision became blurry, so much so that he sometimes can’t make out people in his audience during live shows, describing them as “blobs on a green field.”

He says his eyesight has worsened over time, and that his prescription changed leading to new glasses — but the blurriness remained.

While he acknowledges benefits, including improved mood and weight loss, he warns others to “do their research” before starting similar injections.

Robbie’s comments have drawn a lot of media attention and prompted questions about how these medications might affect people’s eye health and vision.

Do weight loss drugs affect your vision?

Drugs like Mounjaro, Ozempic, and Wegovy fall into a class called GLP-1 receptor agonists. They can be very effective for weight loss or managing type 2 diabetes.

However:

When issues are reported in real-world use, scientists have not always been able to prove that the drug definitively caused the vision problem, only that there’s a signal worth monitoring.

In short: there may be a link in some cases but it’s a very low risk, and many people use these medicines without any eye problems.

What you can do if you’re taking Mounjaro, Ozempic or Wegovy

If you’re using these medications — or thinking of starting them — it’s smart to take a few precautionary steps for your eye health:

Robbie Williams’ recent comments about his eyesight have shone a spotlight on something many people hadn’t previously associated with weight-loss injections. While there is some emerging scientific evidence of a possible, though very rare the link between GLP-1 medicines (such as Mounjaro, Ozempic and Wegovy) and certain eye problems, the overall risk for most people appears to be low.

Even so, if you’re using or considering these medications, it’s sensible to be extra mindful of your eye health. Keeping up with regular eye examinations and seeking advice promptly if your vision changes is a simple, safety-first approach.
