BBC, 3 September 2019

You may have read a recent BBC News article (3 September 2019) highlighting the case of a teenager diagnosed with a condition called nutritional optic neuropathy, resulting in sight loss. Daniel Hardiman-McCartney FCOptom, Clinical Adviser at The College of Optometrists explains “Nutritional optic neuropathy is a very rare condition and is treatable if diagnosed early. The College would always recommend a balanced diet, including a wide variety of fruit and vegetables, to support both general health and eye health. There is no strong clinical evidence available on the effect of diet on more common conditions such as age related macular degeneration (AMD) and cataract.”

If you have concerns about your eyesight, please visit your local optometrist.
